The Mai Mala Buni-led All Progressive Caretaker Committee and Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee had planned to visit the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

It was learned that the decision was part of the decisions taken at the inaugural meeting of the committee which was held at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Monday. The meeting started around 1:02 pm and ended at 3:16 pm.

It was also gathered that the meeting was tentatively scheduled for Tuesday. The meeting is to reassure the APC national leader that the dissolution of the party’s National Working Committee was not targeted at him.

The West African Pilot News earlier reported that the APC National Executive Committee at a meeting attended by President Muhammadu Buhari sacked the National Working Committee (NWC) who were reported to be loyal to Tinubu.

The Chairman of the sacked NWC, Adams Oshiomhole’s suspension was upheld by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on June 16.

Following Oshiomhole’s suspension, the APC was divided into two factions with one led by its suspended Deputy National Secretary, Victor Giadom, and the other consisting of 18 NWC members, who were reported to be loyal to Oshiomhole.

Buhari then declared support for Giadom and attended the Thursday meeting, which he called for.

Political analysts have interpreted Buhari’s support for Giadom and the sack of the NWC loyal to Oshiomhole, as Buhari’s deft move against Tinubu in ahead of 2023 presidential poll.

However, the presidency in a statement on Saturday dismissed the reports that Buhari and Tinubu are not in good term following the dissolution of the NWC.

Also, on Saturday, Tinubu in a statement supported the dissolution of the NWC. According to him, Buhari acted like a true father to save the party from disintegration.

A source at the caretaker committee disclosed that “It was agreed that the committee should go and meet our national leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, to pacify and assure him that the dissolution of the Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee of our great party was not targeted at him. He is one of our most revered leaders. We recognize and appreciate his enormous contributions to this party. We plan to visit him tomorrow (Tuesday). If the visitor does not take place tomorrow, it will take place before the end of the week.”

It was also learned that the committee’s focus in on reconciling the aggrieved members of the party, the formation of ca campaign council for the Edo governorship election, and preparation towards a peaceful primary for Ondo State.
