Aspirants who lost at the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party primary election in Ondo State have accepted defeat.

The West African Pilot News had reported that Eyitayo Jegede defeated 7 other aspirants to win the ticket to fly the flag of the PDP at the governorship election by polling 888 votes. He beat Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi who scored 657 votes.

But Mr Ajayi, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP after falling out with Governor Akeredolu, has accepted defeat, according to the Nation.

In a statement, Ajayi thanked the people of Ondo State for abiding with the PDP in “the struggle to liberate our State.”

“We remain undaunted and resolute about our commitment to a people-oriented government against personalized democracy.

“We wish the good people of Ondo State and the winner the best as we March (sic) on. For us, life goes on,” Ajayi stated.

Similarly, another aspirant, Eddy Olafeso, who lost to Jegede, said that he was willing to cooperate with the winner if he asked for it.

“I pray that the flag bearer, Barr Eyitayo Jegede, will be able to encapsulate our dream. Our desire is to raise economic programme that can usher in prosperity to our people,” Olafeso said.

“He must take a look at our educational sector, look at the health programme left behind Dr. Olusegun Mimiko. He must also ensure that the party fun (sic) efficiently.

“We must bring back the glorious times of Papa Ajasi, Papa Adefarati, Olusegun Agagu ad Olusegun Mimiko if we are to continue to move on in this state.

“Our support to Jegede is not going to be blanket support. He will have to tell us what is the need for us. If our candidate is willing to seek for our cooperation, then at a very formal and informal level we will have to talk. Most of what needed to be done rest with him.”
