The Senate Committee on Science and Technology on Wednesday appealed to the Enugu State government to support the Technology Incubation Centre in the State as it is a veritable platform for employment and wealth creation for the youths.
Senator Uche Ekwunife, chairman of the committee made the appeal when the committee paid a courtesy call to the state governor during an oversight function on all the National Board For Technology Incubation, NBTI, within southeast geopolitical zone.
“The committee is in Enugu State to carry out oversight function on all NBTI centres within the southeast geopolitical zone with the aim to promote, facilitate and actualize the set objectives of the agency,” Ekwunife stated.
“We further call for an enhanced partnership between the state, local government and the agency in nurturing and growing technology-based enterprises for entrepreneurs to develop their businesses,” she said.
“On behalf of the Senate President and the 9th National Assembly, we thank the Enugu State Governor for being a good ambassador of the National Assembly. We appreciate the giant strides in infrastructural development despite the state’s lean resources” said Ekwunife.
In response, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi applauded the committee’s initiative and interest in the Technology Incubation Programme, with regard to its potentials to boost Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and economic development.
Ugwuanyi assured the committee that his administration will partner with the Technology Incubation Centre in Enugu and urged the committee to inspire necessary legislative action that will optimize the benefits of the Technology Incubation Programme towards employment and wealth creation for Nigerians.
Other members of the committee and dignitaries present include, Senator Obinna Ogba representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District; Senator Istifanus Gyang representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Senator Alkali Saidu Ahmed representing Gombe North Senatorial District and the Director-General of the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), Engr. Dr. Mohammed Jibrin.
