Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board ( ADSUBEB) says the state needed about 9000 classrooms learning space and more qualified teachers to bridge the gap in education orchestrated by insecurity and the neglect of the previous government.

Speaking to newsmen, the new chairman of ADSUBEB, Dr. Salihi Ateequ said on resumption of office eight weeks ago, he went out on an assessment tour to fathom himself with the activities of the board.

He said he discovered huge abnormalities of lack of learning space and lack of teachers especially in mathematics, English and science subjects in most of the public schools of the state.

Dr Teequ was emphatic that something has to be  done to improve the quality and access to better education in the state

He said, already the board is collaborating with UNICEF and World Bank to train and retain teachers to adequately teach students before schools resume.

He said the state government presently is constructing 100 blocks of three classrooms and renovating 500 classrooms and plan to build 900 classrooms across the state before the end of this year

” We have also introduced radio teaching programs to reduce the gap during this period of school shutdown caused by the COVID 19 pandemic.”

” The radio teaching programs is ongoing on the Adamawa Broadcasting Cooperation(ABC), presently,” he said,

He commended the UNICEF for building 40 classrooms in some schools across the state adding that with the positive attitude of the current government and the support of some Non-Governmental Organization ( NGO) the problem will be put to rest before the end of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s tenure.
