The Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill for a Law to establish the Enugu State Forest Guards to assist the maintenance of law and order in the state and for other connected purposes, House Bill No 10, 2020.

According to Okwu Chinedu, Chairman of the joint committee, “this law will help to enhance the security of lives and property of the good people of Enugu State.”

“It will also encourage our farmers to return to the farmlands without fear of attack or destruction of their crops in the farmlands by the herdsmen and their cattle which have become prevalent in our farms amongst other vices,” Okwu continued.

After passing the bill, Edward Ubosi, Speaker of the House commended his colleagues for their robust contributions and the exigency of the Forest Guards Law.

“Security challenge is not peculiar to our state but a source of major concern all over the country and in response to the yearnings of the people, we had to work assiduously to see that this bill is passed.

“Knowing our Governor’s zero tolerance for crime, I know he will not hesitate to accent to it,” Ubosi said.
