….No It’s blatant lies and mischief – Management Reacts
The Federal Polytechnic Mubi chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), has protested the alleged wrongful sacking of 100 staff by the outgoing Rector Dr Sadique Yahaya.
The union led by its chairman Hussaini James, at a press briefing at the Yola satellite campus of the institution in Adamawa State, had accused the rector for, “refusal to implement polytechnic act 2019 as directed by Mr President.
James also expressed worry over where about of the remittance of Salary of Advance (SA) of the institution.
Some of the placards carried by the union officials read; ‘where is our 64 months arrears of CONTISS 15”, “Bring Back whistle-blowers whose appointments were illegally terminated”, “Millions Naira spent on water in FPM, yet no water”.
He said for the past eight years, the Rector could not organize convocation yet certificate were issued to graduates saying, “it unfortunate a situation Junior staff would be promoted to the position of director in the institution.
“Academics is not for one person the union believes in seniority and equity.”
The union urged the federal government to investigate the matter with a view to strengthening the academic excellence of the institution.

But reacting some management staff described the protest and allegations by the ASUP as mere blatant lies and mischief by some disenchanted elements in the institution.
Speaking to newsmen on behalf of other management staff, Barr. Mahmud Abubakar Suleiman of School of Business Management Technology said that there was mere misunderstanding of how government operates by some people, “who think they have the mastering of everything, unfortunately, they don’t know anything.
“Everything has procedures and laid down rules which have been followed meticulously by the outgoing Rector.
” The Rector was able to bring changes and intiatives that helps in taking the institution to greater heights.
“We have documentary evidences including video clips how the Rector officially handed over the mantle to the now Acting Rector and some management staff with the exception of one or two, and it has done in a broad light day by 3pm at the Federal Polytechnic, here in Yola campus.
” What is maltreatment when he promoted about 600 staff in 2014, he promoted another 600 staff in 2017. What’s maltreatment when he sent many of us to go for Master’s degrees and third-degree respectively!?
” When you talk of dismissing staff generally, it’s a process, because the person affected must be invited, must be asked and given permission to defend him or herself then the report will be presented before the management, and in turn, the management will prefer a memorandum and send to board council.
” So, why pointing an accusing finger to an individual if truly one knows how government operates!?
” I think some group of individuals are out just to be mischief and settle the score but by the way, Dr Sadiq will be remembered as one of great leaders and administrators in this institution.
“We prayed and wish him well in all field of human endeavor,” he said.
