The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Adamawa state chapter has decried the rising cases of armed robbery, rape, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the state and called for robust security architecture to redress the situation.
The union stated this in a communique at the end of congress meeting held at the NUJ Press Centre Yola, said criminals (Shilla Boys) in the state capital have come up with a new strategy of conducting house to house attacks, collecting money and valuables as well as assaulting their victims.
The Journalists also noted with concern the rising cost of food items, electricity tariff and pump price of petrol, when masses are bearing the economic burden due to the coronavirus pandemic and called for alternative policies to ameliorate the situation.
It, however, appreciated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for approving the certificate of occupancy covering the site as the NUJ Press Centre in Yola and for giving special attention to the proposed media salary scheme to boost the morale of journalists as well as the appointment of some members of the union as members of some boards.
