The Muslim Council of Adamawa State has on Saturday launched the 1442 Islamic calendar in Yola,  calling for tolerance and mutual respect with non-Muslim and adherents of other religions.

 Malam Gambo Jika, Chairman of the council, in his welcome address noted that the organisation under his leadership has been working with relevant stakeholders to ensure peaceful coexistence in the state.

Jika particularly lauded the state government for the giant developmental strides it is putting in place towards ensuring peace and unity.

He also commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for ensuring the prevalence of peace and unity between the diverse people of the state.

The chairman also thanked Lamido of Adamawa for donating a house to the council which is being converted to the first health medical facility to be owned by the Muslim council in the state.

In his words, ”The Muslim council is currently building a state-of-the-art ICT center which comprises offices, halls, and other modern facilities,” adding that the project will cost the council a whooping N50 million.

He thanked the financier of the ICT center whom he said do not want to be mentioned.

Enumerating the importance of the Muslim calendar, the guest speaker, Professor Ibrahim Maqari, chief Imam of national mosque Abuja said, ”for one to even perform his religious obligations successfully, he has to be very conscious of time,” adding that even Allah has tied very important Islamic events like fasting, prayers, and Hajj to time.

He further explained that Allah has in many Quranic verses sworn with the time, ” time is the foundation of life itself as everything attached to a man is tied to it.

”But unfortunately, people do not make effective use of the time until it was gone leading to eternal regrets.

In his address, Governor Fintiri thanked the Muslim community for their prayers and show of understanding during the lockdown in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic which led to the closure of mosques.

He charged Muslim leaders especially parents to prevent their wards from drug consumption saying that the scourge was responsible for the violent crimes bedeviling societies.

Fintiri said that upon the assumption into office,  the present administration had tackled the menace of insecurity head-on, resulting in the drastic reduction of the menace.

He said that” the government is giving priority to the educational sector by ensuring compulsory and free education at primary and secondary levels, payment of WAEC and NECO fees for all candidates as well as rehabilitating/reconstructing about 6,000 classrooms across the state.”
