The upsurge of Rape and Gender-Based Violence cases recorded in some parts of Adamawa State have been attributed to seeking worldly materials, fading out moral decadence, lack of employment, and laxity by youths.
Alhaji Muhammad Ahmad Mustapha (Cika Soro Adamawa) and the District Head Yola made the observation in an interview with the West African Pilot News at his palace in Yola, explained that “the elderly who were in the act are those seeking worldly materials at all cost and were deceived to commit the crime by cultists”.
He added the youths who perpetrated the act are done under the influence of intoxicant due to idleness while the elderly who follow their ego resort to raping minors in anticipation to get rich overnight or have supernatural power.
“The issue of Rape has become worrisome, as Community leaders we will have a peace of mind and happy, if there is peace in a community, people should not relent in offering prayers seeking God intervention on this crimes, with prayers, it will become a history, like the case of Maitatsine uprising recorded in some parts of Nigeria in recent times”.
Cika Soro called on youths to fear the creator and obey the constituted authorities, advising them to engage in meaningful ventures for them to be self-reliant and not to wait for white collar jobs, as the government cannot provide jobs to all graduates.
The traditional ruler called on parents particularly mothers who neglected their responsibility of monitoring their wards to wake up from their slumber, thereby giving moral upbringing to their teens.
Mustapha warned perpetrators to desist as punishment of God awaits any person that commits such an act, urging the people regardless of religious affiliation to pray fervently for God to cleanse the society.
