In line with the mandate of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), to ensure to reduce the carnage on the roads, the FRSC  Adamawa Sector Command has Flag off 2020 Ember Months campaign at Yola Town Motor park  with the theme: Drive Safe, Stay Safe.

The event is meant to create awareness for drivers on the need to observe traffic rules and regulations always particularly within the Ember Months when volume of vehicular movement will increase.

At the ceremony a Playlet in Hausa and Fulfude languages on hazards of overloading, Speeding and use of worn-out tyres was staged, and distribution of face masks and flyers as well as Blood Pressure check for drivers and temperature.

Adamawa State sector commander, Ocheja I Ameh said the purpose of the exercise is to ensure reduction of accident and fatalities to the barest minimum by 15 percent while fatalities by 20 percent respectively.

 “The command has concluded arrangements to take the ember campaign to mosques, churches, motor parks and other public spaces to sensitize the populace against the menace of dangerous driving and other harmful practices.

“FRSC will also ensure taking the safety message to schools with the view of enlightening school drivers to obey COVID-19 preventive protocols”. Ameh added

He noted that the theme of this year’s campaign will be paid on overloading, driving with worn out tyres, over speeding, dangerous driving, and usage of phones while driving among other causes of road crashes.

Ameh pledged to ensure that the COVID-19 safety protocols are observed at motor parks and on highways adding that both drivers and passengers must adhere strictly with the measures to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

 “Measures will include the provision of hand washing stations across all the motor parks in the state, maintaining social distancing and compulsory use of face mask before vehicles are allowed to embark on journeys”. He said

He saluted the Corp Marshall of FRSC Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi for the purposeful leadership he is giving which led to the milestones being recorded by the organizations.

Ameh also thanked the state government, chairmen of the 21 local governments in the state for the support they are according station officers deployed to local governments in order to prevent road crashes as well as security agencies.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in a message through the commissioner of transportation, Alhaji Jika Mustapha said state government will continue to collaborate with the Corps to prevent road crashes in the state.

Fintiri lauded FRSC for the monumental feats it is recording in the state and vows to maintain the tempo of corporation with the organization.

There were goodwill messages from Lamido Adamawa and other stakeholders
