Former Nigeria president, Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the  harassment of peaceful protesters campaigning against extra judicial killings and police brutality in the country.

He emphasized that no life should to be lost during peaceful protests.

While lending a voice to the #EndSARS protest via his Twitter account, Jonathan stated that the protests seek to advance Nigeria as a place where all can live out their full potential.

“No Nigerian blood needs to be spilled or life lost during a peaceful protest that seeks to advance our country.

“We may hold different views on national issues, but there is no doubt that most people desire the same thing for Nigeria: a place where we can all live out the full potential of our God-given abilities.

“I implore everyone to exercise restraint as we walk through these challenging times,” he said.

Campaign against police brutality has been ongoing. Youths have stormed the street in different locations accross the country to protest the extra judicial killings carried out by the country’s Special Anti-Robbery Sqad (SARS).

Many were seen carrying placards over their head as they marched along the streets. Ever since, hashtags like #EndSARS, #SARSMUSTEND topped the trend list on social media.

After few days of protest,  Mohammed Adamu, the inspector general of police (IGP), disbanded the squad but the protests continued as other demands remain untreated.
