The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde on Tuesday inaugurated the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, cautioned them against harassment, extortion and other vices.

The governor, who spoke at the passing-out parade of the corps in Oyo town, said the Amotekun corps would work with the Nigerian Police Force, adding that the security agency was established to fight kidnapping, cultism and those destroying the livelihoods of others.

Makinde further expressed that optimism that someday, there would be support at the federal level in reviewing the constitution and allowing the establishment of state police.

The Governor said the first batch of 1,500 Amotekun corps would be deployed in all the wards in the state, for residents in every nooks and cranny of the state to feel their impact.

He said, “The Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, is an independent outfit. Members will answer to the state governors, but they will be working with the federal security agencies.”

Present at the event were Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun; Chief of Staff, Chief Bisi Ilaka; former Oyo Central District senator, Mrs Monsurat Sunmonu, and Deputy Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Abiodun Fadeyi.
