Ninety-nine days they say, is for the thief but one day is for the owner of the house.
Kidnapping may be done to demand for ransom in exchange for releasing the victim, or for other illegal purposes; sometimes kidnapping results in severe bodily injury or even death of the victim which invariably elevates the crime to aggravated kidnapping.
A suspected kidnapper was caught yesterday after he mistakenly entered the commercial vehicle owned by one of his victims in Dange-shuni Local Government Area, Sokoto in the northern part of the country.
The driver was reportedly kidnapped along Kankara in Katsina state while returning from Kano about two months ago and he spent three weeks in captivity and was released after paying some amount of money as ransom. This must have turned out to be a successful business for the kidnappers then but it has landed Hadari into trouble.
The suspect was recognised by the driver after he boarded his vehicle on his way to Kano state. A member of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) said that the driver was quick to identify him because the incident happened not too long ago.
“After identifying him, he alerted our leaders who in turned informed the nearest police outpost.” the man said.
It was learnt that the driver was asked to move towards Kwannawa motor park in Dange-Shuni Local Government Area of the state, where the car was blocked by police. The suspect confessed to be a member of a gang of kidnappers –who fondly called him Hadari, after he was taken into police custody.
He has now been transferred to Sokoto state police command headquarters for investigation.
