Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has commended officers and men of the Armed Forces for their role in protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria, assuring the government’s unwavering support for them to succeed.
The Governor was speaking at the interdenominational church service held at the Protestant Church 153 Base Service Group of the Nigeria Air Force Yola in commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day being observed annually on the fifteenth of January.
“The sacrifices of gallant officers especially those who died in the peacekeeping have done much for the unity of Nigeria.
“There is a time for everything under the heavens as stated in the book of Ecclesiastics.
Represented by the Chief of Staff Government House Yola, Prof Maxwell Gidado, the Governor lauded the cordial relationship between government and service commanders in the state, assured to maintain the tempo for them to carry their constitutional role effectively.
In his sermon, the Chaplain Protestant Church Flying Officer Emeali who drew his sermon from the gospel of John chapter 19 verse 25-27 tagged his message “God’s expectation from the Armed Forces and the country” said prayers, reflection, and care are three core values, reminding Christians that death is inevitable.
“The importance of prayers in the lives of the armed forces and their families cannot be overemphasized due to the role they played in ensuring the security of the country.
“Government and individuals should take care of the families of the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the unity of the country”. He said
The cleric charged believers to always make sober reflection; repent, assuring that victory is sure for all who trust in the Lord.
The first bible reading was taken by Brigadier General Manjang while the second reading from the gospel of Matthew was read by a representative of the Governor Professor Maxwell Gidado.
Special prayers were offered for the country, a victory for the armed forces, and also for the families of the fallen heroes.
