The Benue State Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, on Sunday, said that the state will not welcome armed herdsmen that are fleeing from South-West.

Akase state that the state Governor, Samuel Ortom, on several occasions, had said that any cattle owner who wanted to reside in the state must ranch his animals.

A report had earlier quoted the Governor’s aide as saying that the herdsmen in the state must be ready to obey the anti-open grazing law in the state.

He had said, “As long as they (Fulani herdsmen) are ready to ranch their cattle and obey the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the state, Benue State will have no problem with them.”

Akase re-echoed the government stand on Sunday, saying, “Benue State will not receive armed herdsmen fleeing from the South-West. As Governor Samuel Ortom has repeatedly stated, any cattle owner who wants to reside in Benue State must ranch his animals. Open grazing remains prohibited in the state.”
