The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) complex centre constructed by the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) in Garaha Hong local government area of Adamawa state has been commissioned.

There was a need for this complex because majority of students residing in rural areas cannot access the internet which affects their studies.

Commissioning the facility, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Barrister Boss Gida Mustapha said that the aim of establishing the ICT complex is to give students in rural areas the opportunity to communicate with the rest of the world as well as to equip them with knowledge of ICT.

“That the emergence of the novel Coronavirus, has created reason for maximum utilization of the ICT, where the recent African Union (A.U) meeting holds virtually, that is; at the comforts of the heads of AU and presidents countries without anyone unnecessary travel rather via zoom and other platforms created by the Federal Ministry of Information and Digital Economy.

“It will further encourage the students to read hard and maintain the ICT infrastructures installed in their schools”, Mustapha said.

The SGF who is also the Chairman Presidential Committee on Covid-19, advised the community to observe the Covid-19 protocols by wearing face masks and observing social distancing always.

In his remark, the representative of the Executive secretary of the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board Engr. Simbi Wabote said the project was part of the effort of oil companies in bringing ICT education to rural areas.

“In the next six months, officials of the board will come and monitor the impact of the facilities on the lives of the students and possibly to provide more additional equipment”, he said.

In their separate remarks, the District Head of Dugwuba, Mr Simon Buba and the Principal, Government Secondary School Garaha Mr Godwin Dalcha Duniya thanked the SGF for citing the project in the area and promised to make best use of the facilities to add value to the lives of the community.
