As the ongoing nationwide strike by members of cattle dealers continues, the Northeast zonal Chairman Cattle Dealers Association of Nigeria Northeast Alhaji Yahya Mohammed has appealed to members of the association to exercise patience with regard to the ongoing nationwide strike by the union.

Mohammed, who made the plea in an interview with  The West African Pilot News, said the strike became imperative to register the union grievances to government over unlawful checkpoints mounted on the highways in the southern part of the country by which is impending movement of cattle and foodstuff from other parts of the country.

“Cattle dealers give out over four hundred thousand naira on each trailer conveying cattle from North before reaching the final destinations in South due to the illegal checkpoints.

“We embark on the strike in order to draw the attention of Governors in the south to reasons with the union and check the excesses at the illegal checkpoints as these actions lead to high price of food and meat in that part of the country”, he said.

Also commenting, the Chairman of Cattle Association Dealers Association Jimeta-bypass branch, Alhaji Garba Jimo reiterated the resolve of branches of the association to adhere to guidelines given by the national secretariat of the association in relation to the strike.

He called on the government to look critically and consider their grievances with a view to find practical solutions to end the strike.
