Three men who abducted a housewife and her one-year-old son at Yolde Pate in Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa state have been convicted and sentenced to 150 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The convicts, Layi Musa, Buba Siddiki and Shanu Kori will serve 50 years each behind bars conspiracy.
The convicts were earlier arraigned before Justice Nathan Musa led High Court I on 14th January, 2021 on charges bordering conspiracy to commit kidnapping and punishable under section 249 (1) of the Adamawa State Administration of Criminal Justice Law at Yolde Pate in Yola South LGA.
Musa and 2 other convicts were found guilty and convicted to 20 years for conspiracy, 1 year for housebreaking and 50 years for kidnapping all to run concurrently.
While the 3 convicts admitted committing the offence as charged, one of the suspects, Buba Mohammed who is currently standing trial as 3rd dependent, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
According to particulars of offence, the 4 convicts and 3 others now at large had conspired to commit kidnapping, and that they stormed the house of Aliyu Suleiman at Yolde Pate on 6 July, 2020 and kidnapped his wife, Aishatu Aliyu Suleiman with her one-year-old son.
They took the woman and her little child to Chambaji hills where they were kept them 2 days until the sum of N1.10 million ransom was paid for their release.
In its judgement, the court presided by Justice Nathan Musa, declared that since the defendants have pleaded guilty to the charge, the court has convicted them as charged.
Reacting to the judgement, both counsels to the prosecution and the 1st and 2nd convicts, A. M. Iliyasu, Senior State Counsel II and M. M. Umar appreciated the court for the judgement.
