The chairman of the North East Governors Forum and Borno state Governor Prof Babagana Umara Zulum has advocated for deployment of new strategies in the fighting of all forms of terror as the menace of insurgency is taking a new dimension in the country.

Zulum made the call on Wednesday at the opening session of the fourth meeting of the North East Governors Forum in the Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi. “The new Service Chiefs should deploy new strategies of fighting all forms of terror as the menace of insurgency is taking a new dimension in the country.

“The federal government should engage mercenaries from neighboring countries like Chad and Cameroun with a view to ending insurgency, the current commitment towards ending insurgency in the region is not enough.

“Adequate security be provided in schools across the country in the wake of the kidnapping of school children as in the cases at Chibok, Dapchi, Kagara and Kangara”, Zulum said.

He acknowledged the contributions of the British government in the efforts towards tackling insurgency in the region.

In his remark, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state stressed the need for Nigeria to decentralize the security architecture to address insecurity in the North East.

Mohammed said the panacea to the incessant security breaches is allowing state police formation in Nigeria.

“The current centralized security architecture is an obsolete system of fighting crime and criminality, state police should be allow to get to roots and restore normalcy, peace and security in the country”, he said.

He advocated for the need to prioritize the local forces to rejig the security architecture of the country, and condole the government and people of Borno and Taraba among other States in the region over recent killings in the region.

A minutes silence was observed in honor of the nation`s fallen heroes and the victims of security challenges in the country.

The meeting was attended by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe and the deputy Governors of Yobe and  Taraba states as well as the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mrs Catrional Laing.
