Nike Lake T-Junction has been shut down in readiness for the construction of a 3.5billion naira Nike Lake/Nike Road T-Junction Flyover/underpass project as provided for in the year 2021 Appropriation law of Enugu state.
The project which will be constructed by IDC Construction Limited is expected to be delivered on or before the end of 2021 as promised by the project manager, Mr. Youssef Zghaib.
The Nike road T-junction is an ever busy road with incessant gridlock as the road leads to suburbs of the state, Nsukka, Kogi, and the north.
Motorists were advised to ply the alternate 5 routes as the T-junction remains shut down starting from 12midnight Monday 8th of March, 2021.
On this, the Information Commissioner, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, said that road signs and massive billboards redirecting motorists and road users in the affected areas has been erected.
“We have created five diversions. At the point of each diversion, we have road signs and will still put up bigger billboards; we are going to ensure that our people don’t suffer too much while this massive work is going on,” Aroh said.
The five designated alternate roads are Abakpa Nike Last Bus Stop-Oda Ngene- Umuchigbo-Nike Harmony Estate Adoration Road Junction; Bishop Shanahan- Ugbene 11-Ugbo Ndafe-Ama Owelle- Alulu-EELG HQ-Nkwor Nike Junction, and Emene-Adoration Ministries Pilgrimage Center- Harmony Estate- Umuchigbo bye-pass.
Others are Abakpa Nike Road-Liberty Junction- Ogwuagor- Uzo Aku Layout- Umuchigbo Harmony Estate Adoration Pilgrimage Centre, and Nike Lake Road- Ugwueke Junction- Igwe Edward Nnaji Palace- Enugu East Development Center-Amangwu Umuenwene – Oda Ngene- Umuchigbo Harmony Estate Adoration Pilgrimage Centre.
The Nike road by-pass which is a major alternate route from the T-junction was constructed and commissioned last year in anticipation of this major landmark flyover project
Meanwhile, Mr. Youssef Zghaib, IDC project manager assured the state of his company’s readiness to take off.
Zghaib also revealed, “We were awarded this project with the duration of one year, but we promise to do our best to deliver within less than one year for sure,
“We don’t want to reach the deadline; with the promise that the funds are available, for sure we will try to deliver before the end of 2021. We deliver projects on time; we have the machines; what you see here is a very small sample of what you will see in the next two weeks.”
In his remark, the Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Hon. Alex Ugwu while commending the state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the landmark project within his LGA, said that owners of structures obstructing the construction will be marked for demolition.
