The federal government should be held liable, if Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue state is assassinated, according to the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
He noted that an assassination of the governor could plunge the country into another civil war.
He stated this while reacting to the attack on Ortom’s life by suspected herdsmen on Saturday.
WAP had reported how, suspected herdsmen, launched an attack on the convoy of Governor Samuel Ortom at Tyo-mu along Makurdi
Fifteen gunmen were said to have trailed Ortom to a riverbank in Tyo Mu along Makurdi/Gboko Road in Makurdi Local Government Area of the State, where he had gone to visit his farm.
“If you kill Ortom, then be prepared to bury Nigeria. If anything happens to Governor Ortom, the federal government will be held responsible and they should be prepared that there will be no more Nigeria,” he said.
He also added the growing trend where the lives of incumbent governors were brazenly threatened is disturbing and unpleasant.
