YOLA — Adamawa State police command has arrested a suspected cyber fraudster and recovered proceeds of the illicit business to the tune of N2, 426,000.

A statement by DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Adamawa State Police Command image maker said the suspect has been defrauding members of the general public through a fake and untraceable website www.highbet.com.ng.

The statement added “The feat was achieved by operatives of Girei command following due diligence and intelligence gathering.

“Findings so far reveal that the suspect has been committing the offence since early February 2021 using an unregistered GSM NO. 09137885655.

“The suspect Kelvin Madu 32 years, a resident of Ika Local government, Delta State, has been extorting and defrauding innocent people on e-trading business, through cash deposit to generate higher interest.

“The commissioner of police Aliyu Adamu Alhaji, psc, deployed operatives following a report received from the victims of the heinous crime leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect”.

The statement said the suspect will be arraigned in court on completion of investigations. It also called on the people to be careful of fraudsters and report to police any suspicious movement around their neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts at tackling criminal activities and other related offences in the state, the commissioner of police commended DPO Girei for making it difficult for such criminals to escape arrest.

He directed all DPOs to go after these fraudsters and prevent them from committing crimes.
