Kogi state pension commissioner, Adebayo Solomon has been killed by gunmen while returning from a trip on Saturday.

The commissioner was attacked at Eruku village, a few kilometres to Egbe and on the boundary between the two states.

The spokesperson of the police in Kogi, Williams Aya confirmed the incident.

According to Premium Times report, Aya admitted that the incident is currently been investigated while the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at ECWA Hospital.

Also. the Chairperson of Yagba East Local Government, Pius Kolawole, was reportedly kidnapped after the incident. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

The security situation in Nigeria is currently at an all-time high as one or more forms of violence is thriving in every state.

According to SBM intelligence report, over 590 people lost their lives to violent attacks in April alone.

The SBM report recorded 160 instances of violent attacks from April 1 to 27, noting that the killings took place in 31 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Meanwhile, members of the House of Reps distressed by the situation had asked that the president declare a state of emergency in Nigeria.

“The president should immediately declare a state of emergency on security so as to fast track all measures to ensure the restoration of peace in the country,” said a resolution passed by the lower house.
