All students abducted by bandits from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri have been rescued according to the Kebbi state governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

The governor in a press release received by this correspondent on Saturday confirmed the release.

His statement contradicts reports on the media which indicates that only two teachers and five students were rescued.

On Thursday, bandits had raided the federal college abducting teachers and about 80 students. A policeman was killed in the attack while a female student sustained gunshot wounds.

The governor sympathized with the victims, indicating that priority has been given to the provision of arms to security agents.

Bagudu reassured parents and staff of the college that all hands are on deck to contain the worsening security situation that is threatening the lives of citizens.

“The security to life and property of the citizenry remains the utmost priority of incumbent administration.

“Furthermore, a premium has been placed on the provision of logistics and the necessary equipment to security agencies to waging total war against banditry and all acts of criminality until normality and tranquility are attained,” he said.

He applauded the security services in the state for their quick response which led to the rescue of the abductees and also commended parents for remaining calm and courageous on the matter.
