ENUGU — A non-governmental organization, Network for Women with Disability, NWD, has lamented the challenges faced by the members over the worsening insecurity in the country.

The organization asked the Federal Government of Nigeria and Enugu State governments to put in more proactive measures towards curbing insecurity in the nation.

The coordinator of the NWD in Enugu state, Jacinta Udeinya, made this called on Wednesday in Enugu during a press briefing organized by the group, funded by Secure Our Lives.

Udeinya decried the high level of bloodletting, kidnapping and sexual abuse, stressing that the group is tired of senseless kidnapping and killing of innocent citizens in Enugu state.

Citing the case of the EndSars protest, the State NWD Coordinator disclosed that many of their members were harassed, robbed, or sexually abused during the period.

“We the Network for Women with Disability commend the Federal and the Enugu state governments for the efforts so far to make the country better.

“We plead with the government to please look into this insecurity in Nigeria, as it affects everyone, particularly women with disabilities.

“If able-bodied persons find it difficult to save his or herself, what more persons or women with disability?

“We beg the government to save us, help us, hear our cries and voices to reduce this insecurity in our country,” Udeinya added.

Also speaking to newsmen, the coordinator of Albino Foundation of Enugu state, Nonye Ogbuagu, regretted that the state is no longer safe for the residents of the state; this is disturbing.

Ogbuagu hinted that women are most affected by insecurity because they lose their husbands, brothers, and sometimes their children; this ugly incident leaves them as breadwinners and emotionally drained.

Also contributing, a member of the Spinal Cord Association, Christiana Ochi, while asking the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Enugu State Government to be proactive in security matters, urged them to seek for external assistance to enable them defeat insecurity in the nation.
