ABUJA — The Buhari-must-go agitators who were arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) at the premises of Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja on July 4 have been granted bail by a magistrate court situated in the capital.

The protesters who were congregants of Dunamis church had been apprehended by the church’s security agents and thereafter handed them over to the SSS operatives.

The group of five had attended the church Sunday service wearing shirts with #BuhariMustGo inscriptions.

Although a federal high court had earlier ordered the release of the protesters, the SSS flouted the orders and arraigned them on charges of disturbance of public peace.

The SSS arraigned the defendants on five counts to which they pleaded not guilty.

In the case marked CR/MPP/25/2021, the Nigerian secret police accused the defendants of conspiracy to disturb public peace, an offence it said is contrary to Section 96 of the Penal Code Law.

Ruling, the magistrate, Mohammed Zubairu, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N500, 000 with a surety each.

Zubairu mandated that the sureties who must be residents of Abuja must also have a reliable means of livelihood.

He also mentioned that defendants were granted bail because the five charges against them were bailable offences and also because that they had been held by the SSS without trial since July.

The magistrate adjourned the case till August 23.
