YOLA — Construction of Wuro Nganyadi Bridge destroyed by insurgents along Michika-Madagali road which links Adamawa and Borno states handled by the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) is going at a snail speed.

As of now, commuters plying the road are in a dilemma as the temporary measures put in place for easy access of people and goods has been cut-off.

As at the time of the inspection visit, motorists were seen stranded with their vehicles loaded with goods which have been causing commotion, while commuters have to alight from their vehicles and get easy passage.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State while inspecting the construction work called on the Northeast Development Commission to ensure speedy completion of the project to ease transportation of goods and services along the road.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government SSG, Malam Bashir Ahmad, Governor Umaru Fintiri advised the federal government to assess the capacity of a contractor before awarding the contract.

“The contractor has been delaying the work which has further subjected the traumatized people returnees to their ancestral homes into untold hardships.”

“NEDC should put more pressure on the contractor to execute the project as the state government is no longer in need of palliative measures, but permanent bridge that will stand the test of time,” Fintiri said.

Fintiri said the contractor handling the project has again assured the government that another temporary measure will be put in place before the actual commencement of the bridge project.

One of the residents in the area, Mr. Luka Daniel lamented that the collapsed bridge has been affecting socioeconomic activities and called on the government to come to their aid.
