A Youth Advocacy Organization, “Stop Abusing Youth” (SAY) Foundation, says it will sensitize one thousand students in fifty schools across the state on the dangers of drug abuse.

The state Chairman of the organization, Mallam Muhammad Sani Abubakar disclosed this while flagging off the project tagged “Save Hundred Thousand Youth from Drug Abuse” held at the Teachers’ House Jimeta.

“The youth advocacy organizations will visit some selected Junior Secondary Schools across the state and sensitize youths on the dangers of drug abuse considering the rate of youths that consumed drugs,” he said.

Abubakar decried the high rate of youth involvement in drug abuse and solicited the support of the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT towards the success of the project.

Abubakar noted that the project is aimed at giving youths who are leaders of tomorrow a sense of direction.

In a remark, the NUT State Chairman, Comrade Rodney Nathan said the NUT will support any meaningful programme geared towards promoting teaching and learning as well as the relationship between teachers, students, and parents.

“The union will create a level field for you (the organization) to execute the project for the advancement of education in the state which can be replicated in other states of the Federation.”

“NUT will not hesitate to support any group that it out to fight the menace of drug abuse in all aspects, as it will make teachers’ work easier.”

“NUT will support any meaningful programme that geared towards enhancing the betterment of teaching and learning as well as enhance relations between teachers, students, and parents.”

“It is desirous of any teacher to be proud of seeing his students are making positive contributions to the society, and would not be happy to see his students are partakers of intoxicants.”

He noted that drug abuse affects all aspects of development.

“It is painful for any teacher to recognize some of the students they taught are amongst praise singers hovering around those in leadership positions. A teacher will now consider that his investment in the students has not produced positive results that will be beneficial to the society.”

“Some parents are not aware of what teachers are passing through while molding the characters of students for them to be responsible members of the society.”

“Teachers nowadays are faced with numerous challenges as some students came to school with dangerous weapons and if the teacher raises an eyebrow he will be attacked,” he added
