NNEWI — The sit-at-home directive in the Southeastern states of Nigeria by the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) as a sign of solidarity for a quickest and fairest trial of the embattled IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi turned bloody in the commercial town of Nnewi, Anambra State today, Monday the 9th of August, 2021 as two civilians were allegedly gunned down by soldiers in front of “Dalgo House”, Nnobi road, around the popular Izuchukwu park, Nnewi.

Today’s sit at home is the first boycotting effort to be marked each Monday of every week until the release of Mazi Kanu as announced by IPOB. According to an eyewitness report, the two ill-fated victims were a commercial motorcyclist (okada) and a yet to be identified man suspected to get a member of the Eastern Security Network ( ESN) dressed in a soutane with charms and arm-like substances underneath the priestly regalia. The death of the duo was an aftermath of conflict which ensued between soldiers and IPOB members when the latter was hell-bent on enforcing road blockade.

After the incident, a group of suspected IPOB members staged a protest but were dispersed by a combined team of security agencies.

Apart from the killing of the two, no other violence was recorded although, series of gunshots suspected to be fired by the police and other security agents were heard around the town which made dwellers of Nnewi curl up in their shells for safety

WAP gathered that tranquility was the order of the day as the town turned to a ghost city as dwellers made calls among themselves from their homes to monitor the situation instead of coming out to the street to observe by themselves.
