YOLA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) Adamawa State Chapter has suspended the APC Caretaker Chairman, Yola South Local Government, Alh. Suleiman Adamu.
The party equally approved the APC Local Government Vice Chairman Alh. Adamu Majekano to take over the mantle of leadership as Acting Chairman Yola South pending the outcome of the investigation of the seven-man disciplinary committee.
The suspension was taken at an emergency SWC meeting today (10/08/2021) following an audio clip widely circulated in social media which emanates from the stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Yola South Local Government.
It was gathered that an audio clip of some APC stakeholders abusing Buhari has gone viral sparking serious disquiet in the state.
Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi, State Caretaker Publicity Secretary of the party in a statement said the audio clip was replayed, digested, and deliberated upon before taken the decision.
The statement read in part: “At the end it was observed that some of the words/remarks in the audio clip were most unfortunate and require further investigation.”
“Consequently, a seven-man disciplinary committee has been set up by the SWC to investigate the issues in the audio clip and make appropriate recommendations for action.”
“In order to ensure unhindered investigation and fair hearing, the SWC has resolved that the APC Caretaker Chairman, Yola South Local Government (Alh. Suleiman Adamu) who is a member of the State Executive Committee be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation by the seven-man disciplinary committee.”
The committee members are Alhaji Saidu Maitalata (Naira) Chairman, Barrister Shagnah Pwamaddi Secretary while Alh. Abdullahi Wali, Alh. Mohammed Raji Suleiman, Mr. Obed Shadrach, Alhaji Babangida Majekano Talase, and Mr. Jonah Haruna to serve as Members.
The statement did not explain the terms of reference and time frame for the committee to complete its work.
It, therefore, urged stakeholders of the party at all levels not to allow unpleasant comments/remarks during party meetings of any nature.
In his reaction, the suspended caretaker chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yola South local government Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu denied insulting President Muhammadu Buhari saying that a viral video in which he was purported to be insulting the president was doctored and fake.
“The fake audio clip was the handiwork of the enemies of the party who are hell-bent on destroying it for selfish purposes.
“My attention has been drawn to a purported doctored audio circulating in the social media that I was quoted during a stakeholders meeting of our party APC at the residence of former commissioner Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Yola on Sunday 08-08-2021 saying “I don’t know why Coronavirus didn’t kill Buhari.”
“What transpired during the said meeting were issues regarding the unity and progress of our political party. We have not complained, abuse or disrespect anybody during the meeting
“Hence, President Muhammadu Buhari is the leader of our party and we have respect for him and the constituted authorities.
“I vehemently deny the existence of the conversation such as in the audio recording and i have already lodged a report to appropriate security agencies for investigation to be carried out to identify the mastermind of this act,” he said.
“The purported audio in circulation is fake, baseless, malicious and intentionally doctored by some enemies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to dent my image and other high profile stakeholders in attendance during the meeting which was organized to strengthen the unity of the party,” he said.
