NNEWI — The management team, staff, associates of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH),
Nnewi organized a grand reception on Wednesday, 15th September 2021 in honor of associate Prof. Joseph Odirichukwu Ugboaja as the substantive Chief Medical Director (CMD) NAUTH, Nnewi.
This reception came up exactly one week after President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Prof. Ugboaja as the substantive CMD of the tertiary health institution.
Receiving him at NAUTH premises, the Catholic cleric of NAUTH, Okofia Campus prayed for an exceptional tenure for Prof. Ugboaja: “I thank God for the gift of a supportive CMD, God send helpers from your sanctuary to aid your servant in this call to serve, remove all wolves in sheep’s clothing, remove health hazards, let NAUTH be planted in your heart so that it would be one of the best tertiary health institutions in Africa.”
On the part of Obi Nnewichi, Nnewi, Obi George Onyekaba who is equally a senior Director in NAUTH; “The journey to liberate NAUTH has started with Dr. Ugboaja’s victory. NAUTH has seen the light because henceforth, it will grow from strength to strength and become one of the best in Nigeria, we will access quality health care services in NAUTH and not in India or America. Dr. Ugboaja shall be a good shepherd and we, obedient flock.”
The man of the moment, Prof. Ugboaja simply described his emergence as the new CMD of NAUTH as a Divine mandate for the overall victory of service to humanity and promised to work without fear or favor: “Without fear of contradiction, I have come to change the narrative. Calling NAUTH anatomy, MBURI (a slaughter for patients) is thing of the past. The new NAUTH we are building is a top-notch staff and patients oriented prioritized mission to render selfless service to humanity.”
The board chairman of NAUTH, Chief Ezekiel Irmiya E. Afukonyo simply described Dr. Ugboaja’s appointment as a victory over darkness: “This is battle between light and darkness but today, light has triumphed over darkness’s, this is a dawn of a new era, behold your CMD, behold your promotion for a brighter tomorrow”.
Recall that since the 26th of January, 2021, Dr. Ugboaja succeeded the immediate past CMD of NAUTH, Prof. Anthony Igwegbe on acting capacity.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Ugboaja, an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist by training has been a formidable force in NAUTH. It is worthy to note that he held positions as erstwhile Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), director of clinical services, research and training, chairman of the NAUTH Taskforce on Covid-19 amongst other numerous top positions where he displayed his prowess and professionalism which has served as a stepping stone to his attainment of the CMD of NAUTH.
