LAGOS — The Lagos Inner Wheel Club has called for the provision of adequate and quality medical care to indigent Nigerians.

It also said that the well being of the less privileged would top its projects for the year 2021/2022, in order to curb the prevalence of common diseases amongst the less privileged Nigerians.

The District 912 Chairman, Mrs. Adefunke Shinaba, who spoke to  the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos State on Tuesday said that the club has service as its driving force.

Shinaba said that the organisation has mapped-out areas mostly densely populated in Lagos and Ogun states for its planned free medical care outreach.

According to her, public health delivery, if it must be seen to be delivered efficiently, civil organisations and groups must complement governments’ efforts.

“As an organisation, D912 is in the business of ensuring that the average and less average Nigerians are routinely catered for within the strength of our resources.

“Our public health delivery project transcends giving of drugs and reading glasses to the sinking of  boreholes and the construction of toilets in schools, to sensitisation campaigns against filthy environments,” she said.

Shinaba, who regretted the subsisting COVID-19 pandemic, advised people to maintain safety measures as directed by the authorities.

she further stressed that good sanitary environment was needed for a good and healthy living.

She said that Inner Wheel District 912, comprising Lagos State and some parts of Ogun, has large number of people that needed their attention.

Shinaba also called other organisations to join the club in rendering free services to the people.

NAN reports that the organisation had carried out free medical outreach in Oshodi, Lagos, while other areas would benefit from the project soon.

Its outreach programme featured mental health alertness, eye tests,  breasts screening for women, prostrate, sugar level, hepatitis B, HIV , malaria screenings, family planning and the provision of free reading glasses

The Inner Wheel Club is an international women service oriented organisation, founded by Mrs Oliver Golding, the spouse of a Rotarian in Manchester United Kingdom in 1924.

It has presence in 104 countries , with no fewer than 108, 000 members spread across the globe.

District 912 Nigeria is one of the 6 Districts in Nigeria and consists of 24-clubs in Lagos State and parts of Ogun.

It is a non-profit, non-political organisation of women.
