LAGOS — The General Overseer of Christ Living Hope Church, Rev. Ugochukwu Emmanuel Ekwem has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for drug peddling.
The Agency spokesman, Femi Babafemi, made this disclosure through a statement issued on Sunday, March 13, on the official Facebook page of the NDLEA.
According to Babafemi, the man of God was apprehended at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Monday, March 7, while on his way to Kenya for a three-week crusade, with 54 sticks of drugs, which tested positive for cannabis after a laboratory test, wrapped around his body.
The statement by Femi Babafemi titled, CHURCH GENERAL OVERSEER ARRESTED WITH DRUGS AT LAGOS AIRPORT reads partly:
“Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested the General Overseer of Christ Living Hope Church, Rev. Ugochukwu Emmanuel Ekwem at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos while on his way to a three-week crusade in Nairobi, Kenya, with 54 sticks of drugs wrapped around his body.
“The youthful and popular preacher who has his church headquarters in Isuaniocha, Mgbakwu road, Awka, Awka North LGA, Anambra state and two other branches in Lagos and Abuja, was arrested on Monday 7th March, during the outward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airlines flight to Nairobi via Addis Ababa.
“When tested, the 54 sticks proved positive for cannabis. The clergyman confessed during a preliminary interview that he packed that quantity of illicit substance on his body to use during his three weeks crusade in Kenya.”
