ILORIN — Members of the joint security operatives in Bangi, the headquarters of Mariga local government council of Niger state have killed over 100 bandits who recently attacked Nasko the headquarters of Magama local government council of the state.
According to residents, the bandits came in their numbers and wanted to invade the local government headquarters around 6 pm on Wednesday.
The situation was saved by the joint security operatives that repelled the attack and killed over 100 and recovered over 80 motorcycles from the bandits.
The successful operation on Wednesday was applauded by many Nigerlites who came out in large numbers celebrating such an unprecedented feat.
However, during the attack, the bandit killed the Divisional Police Officer, two policemen, and six members of the vigilante corps on Tuesday.
Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, Secretary to the Niger State Government said that the state government remains resolute in its efforts at addressing all cases of crime and criminality until the battle is won.
On his part, Mr. Emmanuel Umar, Niger State’s Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security said the fight against insurgency in Niger state has been yielding positive results, but declined to comment on the number of bandits neutralized.
