The Katsina State Police Command has clarified that the acclaimed police officer paraded for smuggling by the Katsina State Command of the Nigerian Customs Service, on Wednesday, is a police impersonator.
SP Gambo Isah, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, made the clarification while parading the impostor before pressmen at the Katsina command’s headquarters on Thursday.
The suspect, at the time of arrest has four different means of identifications, including that of the Nigeria Police,
Recall that the customs operatives arrested the suspect for smuggling who claimed to be an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
According to Gambo, said the suspected smuggler will be transferred back to the Katsina Command of the Nigerian Customs Service for prosecution.
SP Gambo said: “For the avoidance of doubt, the Police after conducting a thorough and discreet investigation on the suspect discovered that he is not a police officer but an impostor. The police ID card found in his possession is fake.
“The Command hereby wishes to inform the members of the public to note that the suspect arrested is not a policeman but an impostor.
The impersonator said: “I am not a police officer. I only use their ID card and other items found on me to make it easier for me to beat security checkpoints on the road.”
