AWKA — The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, has assured residents of Anambra State of their safety during the Easter celebration in the state. The assurance was given by the CP today Good Friday also expressed confidence in the sustained efforts by Anambra Police Command to fight crime and criminality across the state.

While reminding the good people of Anambra State to remain focused on the essence of the Easter celebration, the CP urged the people to “emulate…the selfless lifestyle of Christ as they join other Christians around the globe to celebrate Easter”, a statement by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, reads in part.

The CP further placed a demand on relevant police divisions and teams to be on alert. “The Area Commanders, Heads of Tactical Units, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Departments across the command should be at alert and be security responsive so as to prevent any untoward situation in their areas of responsibility, to ensure a secure, peaceful, and incident-free celebration throughout the Easter season and beyond”, the CP said.

Similarly, the statement urged officers to be mindful of the rights of citizens while discharging their duties. “Personnel must be professional and mindful of the fundamental rights of the citizens, and discharge their responsibilities with all sense of decorum and vigilance”.

Anambra residents are encouraged to provide relevant information to the police to help in keeping the state safe for everyone. According to the statement, suspicious persons or movements should be reported to the “nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency number: 112 or call 07039194332, for prompt response. In addition, the NPF ‘rescue me app’ is also available for free download on both iOS and Android phones”, DSP Ikenga said in the statement.
