ENUGU — Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organization in the South-East, says no politician of South-East extraction should accept to be running mate to any presidential candidate in 2023.

President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Professor George Obiozor, made the declaration at the Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo meeting in Enugu on Thursday.

Prof. Obiozor said the clamour for an Igbo president is morally and historically justifiable and a project to which every Igbo must commit.

According to him, “All the double-dealings about zoning and rotation of power are orchestrated conspiracy to deprive the South-East of the right to produce the president.”

He encouraged “all the presidential aspirants from the zone to remain focused, tenacious, and optimistic.”

The President explained that the Political Action Committee (PAC) of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo would meet eminent Nigerians to persuade them on the need for the next president to come from the South-East.

Lamenting the effects of the sit-at-home observed on Mondays in the region, he said the South-East is recording huge losses.

“Ndigbo has tried severally to persuade the youths to realise the consequences of their actions,’’ he added.

This is coming a few hours after the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum, IECF, better known as Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo warned that any attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to deny the South-East region their 2023 presidential tickets will spell doom for Nigeria’s corporate existence.
