Gunmen have kidnapped 8 persons including 2 catholic priests in one of the parishes presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan-Kukah.

Father Kukah’s Sokoto Diocese covers Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States.

According to sources, the gunmen who trekked to Gidan Maikambu village in Dutsen Kura Ward of Kafur Local Government Area arrived at around 11.00hrs at night where they gained entrance into the compound of the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at the outskirts of the village and abducted the priests and two of their guests.

Those abducted were identified as Rev. Father Oliver Okpara and Father Stephen Ojapa.

Similarly, bandits had attacked Barebari village in Safana Local Government Area of the state where they abducted four persons.

A source from Babban-dudu village which is in close proximity with Barebari said the operation lasted several hours as the bandits carried out a house-to-house raid in search of livestock to rustle.

Alhaji Dan-mashubulle, a popular politician in the village was among those that were kidnapped during the raid.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer said the command was yet to receive a report on the two incidents.

These attacks are coming barely one day after bandits killed 12 people at Gakurdi village in Jibia Local Government Area of the state.

The bandits also vandalised farmlands belonging to the residents of the village which is on the Nigeria-Niger Republic border.
