165 Enugu state indigenes in different campuses of the Nigerian Law School across the country have received a sum of a hundred thousand naira each from the Enugu State Government as bursary.

Although the criteria for selection was not made open to press, the Special Assistant to the State Governor, Louis Amoke stated, “The beneficiaries of the bursary were identified and listed by Enugu law students themselves when they interacted with Gov. Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, recently.”

Confirming the disbursement of the bursary to the law students, the Executive Secretary, Enugu State Scholarship Board, Barr. Uche Levis Abonyi, disclosed that each of the beneficiaries received the sum of N100,000.00 from the state government, through his office.

He further revealed that the State Government conceived and embarked on this laudable disbursement of bursary to her citizens since 2020 at the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the country.

“In 2020, the State Government paid the sum of N24,600,000.00 to law Enugu state indigene students to cushion the adverse effects of the pandemic,” Barr. Abonyi disclosed.

The Executive Secretary then urged the students to be good ambassadors of the state and to keep uplifting the state in prayers for the sustenance of peace, security and good governance as entrenched by the Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration.

In his response, the leader of the law students, Michael Kenechukwu Onah expressed immense gratitude to Gov. Ugwuanyi for continued show of humility, benevolence and steadfastness to the wellbeing of Enugu indigenes and residents in spite of the nation’s economic challenges.

Onah reiterated the commitment of the law students towards making Enugu State proud, promising Gov. Ugwuanyi that they will surely make him proud in the Bar Finals coming up in August this year in appreciation of his kind gesture.
