Nigerians have urged Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and the publisher of Sahara Reporters, to join the Labour Party and team up with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the party, ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Sowore had, again, secured the presidential ticket of the African Action Congress (AAC), a party he founded, at its national convention on Thursday in Abuja.
In his declaration speech, the publisher, who stepped down as the party’s chairman before his emergence as the flag bearer of the party, described the presidential candidates of other parties, apparently referring to Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu of the Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and All Progressives Congress (APC) respectively as “thieves”, and himself as the “police”.
“We’re on the match again and the Nigerian people are waiting for their real president. The other parties have elected their thieves and we have decided that if the other parties elect thieves, we will elect our own police,” he said.
Announcing the victory, Sowore shared photos from the national convention on his Facebook page with the caption:
“Today, the @aacparty elected me as the presidential candidate and flag bearer of the revolutionary party! With this deed, another revolutionary chapter has been opened that will bring about total liberation for the people of Nigeria and Africa.”
Many Nigerians took to the comment section to congratulate him, but some urged him to forget his presidential ambition and rather join forces with Peter Obi of Labour Party.
