No fewer than 65 children have died as a result of the outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in the state, Jigawa State Ministry of Health says.

According to state epidemiologist at the Ministry of Health, Samaila Mahmud while speaking to newsmen said the state has recorded over 257 cases in 18 out of the 27 local government areas in the state as a result of the disease.

“Out of the number of cases recorded so far, 65 people have lost their lives.

“The Jigawa State Government in collaboration with Save the Children International have intensified efforts to address the problem through engaging communities across the six most affected LGAs to strengthen their capacity for early preparedness and response to mitigate future outbreaks,” he said.

Mr. Ibrahim, an official of Save the Children International (SCI), said 17 health facilities in the state benefited from the training, drugs and medical consumables.
