Our Lord’s Sabbath Mission has changed its name to Our Lord, the Saviour Covenant Church, and scrapped the compulsory wearing of white garments for worship.

The General Overseer of the church, Rev. Chigozie Samuel Nwaka, Ph.D., in a press statement on Sunday, said he made the announcement at the church’s yearly Feast of Pentecost which was held on Sunday, May 5, 2022.

According to Rev. Nwaka, the change is the hallmark of the transformation the church, which is located at Umunam Atta Njaba in Imo State, has undergone under his watch as the priest all these years.

He equally stressed that the change of name underscores the fact that indigenous Sabbatharianism in Nigeria has developed to have different identities and shades which are not captured in the use of the word ‘Sabbath’ in their names, but in the vision and doctrinal practices of the individual assemblies under their various leaderships.

The cleric, however, noted that all documents bearing the former name of the church remain valid, but warned the public to desist from using them to commit crime, stressing that such impostors will be dealt with according to the law.

In addition to the change of name, Rev. Nwaka also stated that the church’s culture of compulsory wearing of white garments for worship ceases forthwith, adding that other major identities that defined the church before now, such as other ritual laws of the Tabernacle will continue to undergo changes under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

However, he remarked that the Church will continue to uphold as sacrosanct the observances of the Sabbath (on Saturday) as the day of worship and the celebration of the Feasts of God as enshrined in Leviticus 23.
