A state-owned tertiary institution in Bauchi State, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) has suspended a senior staff, identified as Raliya Kashim over her alleged involvement in partisan politics.

Maimako Baraya, the spokesperson for the polytechnic, announced the institution’s verdict on the matter in a statement on Friday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Baraya said Kashim was suspended for allegedly campaigning for “the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) presidential and governorship candidates” on WhatsApp, stating that her action flouted the stipulations of the state’s public service.

“The employee recently posted videos containing campaign materials of the presidential and the governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This is a clear violation of the code of ethics for public servants,” he said.

Baraya further said that the school authorities would ensure strict adherence to the laws of the institution by the staff.

“The management of the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic wishes to categorically state that the institution is a professional entity governed by rules. It shall leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all employees respect the laws of the institution.

“We wish to assure the general public that there would be no sacred cow and it will never be intimidated by the activities of political jobbers, fifth columnists, and enemies of the state.”

Kashim was the deputy general manager of consultancy services of the polytechnic before her suspension.
