A Sharia Court in Ningi Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State on Wednesday sentenced three men to death by stoning for raping two boys.
Channels Television reports that the Sharia police or Hisbah official, Adamu Dankafi said the men were arrested in Gwada village in Ningi LGA in May following complaints by parents of the two boys who alleged that they had been drugged before the act.
The convicts, identified as Abdullahi Abubakar Beti (30), Kamilu Ya’u (20) and Malam Haruna (70) years, were convicted based on provision 134 of Bauchi State Penal Law of 2001 as well as the provisions of Fiquhussunah Jizu’i number 2 on page 362.
While delivering the judgement after hearing the statements by witnesses and admittance of guilt by the three accused persons, the trial Judge, Munka’ilu Sabo Ningi, sentenced them to death by stoning.
“The Upper Sharia Court One in Ningi handed down the death sentence on the three men for committing homosexual acts with two brothers aged 10 and 12,” Dankafi, the Hisbah official said.
“The three are to be stoned to death as prescribed by the Bauchi state Sharia penal code based on their confessions during interrogation by our men and before the court.”
Raping minors is punishable by death under Nigeria’s Sharia law, although like most other death sentences it has never been enforced. In this case, the men were charged under a law related to homosexual acts.
