NewsAPC Appoints Buhari As Chairman Presidential Campaign Council

In preparation for electoral campaigns ahead of the 2023 general election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed President Muhammadu Buhari as the Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council.
The decision was reached at a meeting between the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the party governors on Wednesday, in Abuja.
The proposal was said to have received the blessings of the President shortly before the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) met with the candidates on Wednesday.
By this appointment, President Buhari has been vested with the power to make the final decision on all matters of operations, funding, and general events of the campaign.
According to the document, which was sighted by The West African Pilot News, Tinubu was appointed as deputy chairman (1), while the national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu was appointed deputy chairman (2).
Appointed as vice-chairmen were: Kebbi State governor and chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, Atiku Bagudu; the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio; APC vice-presidential candidate and former governor of Borno State, Sen. Kashim Shettima; and the only female presidential aspirant of the party during the June 2022 presidential primary election, Uju Kennedy.
Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, who was earlier appointed as the Director-General of the campaign retains his position, and he is to be assisted by a former national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole (Deputy Director-General, Operations), and a former managing director of the Nigerian Ports, Hadiza Bala Usman (Deputy Director-General, Admin).
The party’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2015 elections in Kogi State, Hon. James Faleke was appointed as the Secretary of the council, while Christopher Takar was appointed the Deputy Secretary.
The governor of Jigawa State, Badaru Abubakar, is the regional coordinating chairman for the North, and Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, would coordinate the South.
The governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello would serve as the coordinator for the North Central; Gombe State governor, Inuwa Yahaya for the North-East; the Governor of Zamfara, Bello Matawale, for the North-West; Ben Ayade of Cross River State for the South-South; and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, for the South-East.
The document equally indicated that there will be 14 directorates in the campaign structure and zonal campaign coordinators for the six geo-political zones.
It also indicated that state campaign coordinators will be APC governors for states where the party is ruling, and APC gubernatorial candidates for non-APC states.
According to the timetable and schedule of activities for 2023 general election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, presidential campaigns are expected to kick off on 28 September 2022.
