LAGOS — The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has produced its first-ever female vice-chancellor (VC), Professor Folashade Ogunshola.

Prof. Ogunsola’s announcement as UNILAG’s 13th VC was made by Mrs. Adejoke Alaga, Principal Assistant Registrar, Communication Unit of the institution on Friday.

The professor of microbiology was among the seven shortlisted candidates for the position.

Other shortlisted candidates were: Prof. Abayomi Akinyeye of the faculty of arts; Prof. Mathew Ilori and Prof. Adeyinka Adekunle both of the faculty of sciences.

Others include Prof. Imran Smith of the faculty of law; Prof. Timothy Nubi of the faculty of environmental sciences; and Prof. Ayo Olowe of the faculty of management sciences.

Prof. Ogunshola will succeed the current VC, Prof. Toyin Ogundipe. His tenure elapses on Friday, 11 November 2022.

Her five-year tenure will run from Saturday, 12 November 2022 to Thursday, 11 November 2027.
