The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has maintained that no Nigerian film will compete in the International Feature Film (IFF) category at the 2023 Oscar awards.
The verdict was reached on Thursday, 20 October, a day before the deadline given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for the committee to reconvene and reconsider its “no film eligible” decision.
According to TheCable Lifestyle, this was how the 15-member committee voted:
Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi – No Revote
Mahmood Ali-Balogun – Revote
Mildred Okwo – Revote
Ego Boyo – Revote
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde – No Revote
Stephanie Linus – No Revote
Shaibu Husseini – Revote
Bruce Ayonote – No Revote
Adetokunbo Odubawo – No Revote
Izu Ojukwu – No Revote
Moses Babatope – Revote
Yibo Koko – No Revote
Meg Otanwa – No Revote
Kenneth Gyang – Revote
John Njamah – No Revote
Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi, the chairperson of NOSC, had questioned the Academy’s interference in the decision of the committee to not submit a movie for the IFF awards.
She said NOSC finds it ‘strange’ that the Academy would request a reconvening of the committee to redefine its position after it (the Academy) had said that it doesn’t interfere in the outcome of voting processes at the country level.
