The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has addressed the speculations that the party’s presidential flag bearer, former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, would withdraw from the presidential race and support another candidate.
Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, said it was too late for the NNPP to merge with any other political party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Johnson also said there were no ongoing negotiations between Kwankwaso and any of the presidential candidates about collapsing NNPP’s campaign for the victory of another party.
“It’s too late for mergers and there is no talk of collapsing the campaign, Kwankwaso’s campaign, or the NNPP campaign at any level at the moment with any of the party or any of the candidates,” Johnson said in an interview with Channels TV on Wednesday.
He added, “That is not on the card yet. What I mean when I said ‘not yet’ is that we are going all the way to 25 February next year.”
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso will make his presidential blueprint public on Tuesday, 1 November 2022.
