The Federal government has again postponed the resumption of skeletal train services at the Abuja-Kaduna railway.

On Friday, the minister announced that the Abuja-Kaduna train service would resume on Monday, November 28, 2022, with skeletal train schedules.

However, the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo on Sunday while addressing Journalists after test-running the train from the Idu Railway Station in Abuja to the Rigasa train station in Kaduna, disclosed that the train services would resume to the public at a later date

The inspection tour started from the Idu Rail Station when the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, in the company of the Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, and the Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Suleiman Adamu inspected the ticketing section and other critical areas of the station.

The train then moved to the Kubwa train station from where it then left for the Idu railway station in Rigasa, Kaduna State.

The measure is to allow Nigerians to come to terms with the new modifications on ticketing and other critical services put in place to ensure the safety of lives and property of passengers.

At the Rigasa Station in Kaduna, the transportation minister, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo said some modifications have been made particularly in the areas of ticketing, and that passengers will now be required to submit their phone numbers and national identification numbers, (NIN) to ensure they are profiled for security reasons.

The minister said other security mechanisms have been deployed to the area and expressed optimism that with all that has been done, passengers were now safe and that the train services will resume in a few days.

He added that government would continue to monitor development at the railway line and input some more interventions where necessary.
