The Nigeria Police Force, Kwara state command has rescued at least 41 children and arrested three suspected human traffickers.
The command spokesman, Okasanmi Ajayi said in a statement that a detachment of policemen on special security assignment intercepted Musa Ayuba, Jeremiah Muda, and Luka Ayuba, all of Bangi village via Kontagora, Niger State.
“The suspects were intercepted on Okolowo, Ilorin-Jebba road with 41 young boys and girls (22 boys and 19 girls), with their ages ranging between 5 and 15 years. They were reportedly waiting for a lorry that was to convey them to their destination in Ilorin before they were stopped in their tracks”.
“The three suspected traffickers claimed they were on their way from Niger State to Ilorin to meet a pastor who was to enroll the children in a yet-to-be-determined school, the statement said.
The statement advised parents and guardians to be more vigilant and refrain from releasing their children to unknown or deceitful persons, adding that the children might be used as house helps or other “despicable endeavors”, contrary to the child rights laws.
It stated that the suspects will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
